OBITUARY:

Robert Lee "Bob" Ellis, 74, Warsaw, IN, formerly of Speedway, IN, died at 10:12 p.m. in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN on Sept. 26, 2007. He was born in Lafayette, IN on July 23, 1933.

Bob was retired from R.R. Donnelley and Sons and was a member of Warsaw Masonic Lodge No. 73, F. & A.M., Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne, IN, Scottish Rite and American Legion Post 49, Warsaw, IN. He was a graduate of Leesburg High School class of 1951, where he was a stand-out athlete. He also attended Indiana University.

In October of 1952, Bob joined the United States Navy. He was one of 10 men out of 2,800 chosen to play for the U.S. Navy Great Atlantic Fleet basketball team, facing such adversaries as Duke University. Bob remained an avid golfer and sports enthusiast his entire life.

The many friendships Bob made throughout the years meant the world to him and he treasured each and every one of his friends, taking special delight in making them laugh.


Above all else, Bob's main passions in life were his wife, *** and daughter, *** and he adored them with all of his heart, as they adored him. Married for 51 years, Bob and *** met in grade school in Speedway, IN and there began a lifetime of love and laughter.

In addition to his wife, ***, he is survived by his only daughter, *** and son-in-law, ***; step-brother, Glenn Amos, Chicago Heights, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward Ellis, former Kosciusko County Treasurer and Georgia Nadene (Colvin) Ellis; step-mother, Leoma Lissetta "Lee" (Sanford) Ellis; step-father, Joseph Raymond Pritts; step-sister, Barbara Ann (Amos) Lowman Moore. Services will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 30, 2007 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Home, Warsaw, IN, with calling there from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 30, 2007. Burial with graveside military services will be Oct. 1, 2007 at 3 p.m. in Center Ridge Cemetery, Sullivan, IN.
