During WWII, T/5 Cole was a member of the Medical Detachment, 309th Infantry, 78th Division and served in the European Theater.

Chester was the son of Jonathon A. and Bessie E. (Norris) Cole. He married Ruth Verna Lee (Colvin) in 1942 and they had two sons: Chester Albert Jr. and Norman Dean.
