Lieutenant, United States Naval Officer. Served in the United States Naval Reserve during World War II. He earned his gold pilot's wings at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in February 1942 and became a flight instructor in October of that year. In 1943 he flew with the Scouting Squadron 62 until November 1943 when he became a torpedo plane pilot with Squadron 7. From April 1944 to December 1944 he was aboard the USS Hancock (CV-19), as part of Task Force 38, in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Also part of Acorn 36, NAS Miami Opa Locka and Squadron 79. In November 21, 1945, he was transferred to NAS Fort Lauderdale. He had 2,509.3 flight hours, 616 in the TBM Avenger torpedo bomber. He was the commanding officer of the infamous Flight 19 squadron that disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle during a routine 5-ship overwater navigation training mission [Flight Leader FT-28/pilot of aircraft TBM-3D - BuNo 23307].
