ANNIN, MARJORIE E. Marjorie was born on April 28, 1906, in Fullerton, California and attended schools there through high school. She attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles from 1924 to 1930 receiving a Bachelor of Arts as well as a Masters Degree in Education. She was in the last class of Home Economics at USC. In 1930, she began a teaching career that lasted forty years. She taught at Salinas High School in Monterey County for six years, at La Jolla High School for four years and remained at San Diego High School for thirty years. Marjorie was President of the San Diego District Home Economics Association for one year. In 1947-48, she served as President of the California Home Economics Association which had a membership of 1100 members. Through this organization she sponsored the formation of a San Diego group of retired Home Economists known as Home Economists in Home and Community which in 1994 had grown to over ninety members. It is affiliated with the San Diego District as well as the National Association. She was a member of the American Home Economics Association located in Washington, D.C. for over 60 years. This group changed its name in 1995 to the Association to Family and Consumer Sciences. Her work with the Mission Hills United Church of Christ was with the Material Aid Group. One day a month her task was to tie quilts for convalescent hospitals. In her spare time at home, she crocheted afghans which were donated to convalescent hospitals. By 1997 she had made 86 afghans for family, friends, and hospitals. She and Jean Grimshaw Barnard built a home in Mission Hills in 1940 and lived together for 38 years. Visitation will be held on April 28, 2009, from 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m., and Services at 10:00 a.m. at Mission Hills United Church of Christ, 4040 Jackdaw Street, San Diego, CA 92103, 619-296-2169. Burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Loma Vista Memorial Park, 701 E. Bastanchury Road, Fullerton, CA 92835. In lieu of flowers, donate to your charity of choice."
