MACOMB - James "Jim" Richard Chambers, 62, of Macomb passed away at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at his residence.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1949, in Geneseo, Ill., to Richard and Ruth Swails Chambers. He married Janet Tallcott on Nov. 27, 1971, in Mendon, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Amy Chambers of Macomb, Ill., Erin Chambers of Mendon, Ill., and Ilene (fiance, Bryce Fortner) Chambers of Springfield, Ill.; and four sisters, Charolette (Dale) Goodrich of Geneseo, Ill., Rose (Bill) VanHyfte of Annawan, Ill., Pat (Lynn) Neuleib of Annawan, Ill., and Barb (Lyle) Warfel of Tuscola, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother, Dennis.

Jim graduated from Annawan High School in 1967. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Western Illinois University in 1972. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity.

He and Janet have been owners of The Attic in Macomb since 1972.

He was a member of the Macomb City Council for 14 years, serving as First Ward alderman from April 20, 1987, till May 1, 2001.

He was an avid flower gardener. Jim loved trains, Christmas decorations and flowers, coins and music.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2011, at the Macomb Church of Christ, with Dennis Tallcott officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial of ashes will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.

Memorials may be made to either MDH Hospice, Macomb Beautiful or Macomb Fire Department.
