Jennie C. Fox, daughter of David and Margaret (Lewis) Fox, was born in Clearfield county, Pennsylvania, Jan. 19, 1854 and died at her home in Lake City Jan 24, 1894, being, therefore, at the time of her decease, forty years of age, lacking five days. She came to Lake City with her parents in 18??, and was married to the Hon. L. F. Danforth Nov. 12, 1873. At the age of nineteen years she was baptized into the Christian church, of which organization she remained a consistent, working member up to the time of her death. In fact, her whole life was so full of charitable deeds, unselfish acts and sincere devotion to the cause of truth that she came as near exemplifing the true christian life as is often given a human character to do. She was a sufferer from pulmonary troubles during the last ten years of her life, and for the past two or three years she must have realized at times that the end was not far off, but, in spite of all her suffering, she remained ever cheerful and full of hope and retained the faculty of sympathizing with the trials of others more than dwelling upon her own. She was loathe to allow her thoughts to dwell upon death and the grave, but she loved life - both the one here and the other beyond the dreary tomb, and she found much delight in helping others to see happiness in both. An illustrating one prominent trait of the excellent lady's character, her friends relate that at the very beginning of the present year she insisted upon paying dues for the full year in advance in the various benevolent societies, and her usual yearly donation to the church, to which she belonged, explaining that no one knew what might happen during a year and she wanted to run no risk of being in arrears in any of the work in which she was interested.
The funeral services in honor of Mrs. Danforth were held in the Presbyterian church on Saturday, Jan. 27, Elder Bartholomew, of the Christian church, officiating. The large concourse of friends in attendance upon these ceremonies expressed more forcefully in their silent sorrow the genuine esteem in which the deceased was held by an entire community than mere words can do. A husband, adopted daughter, father and mother and three brothers are left to mourn a loss, irreparable, so far as this life is concerned.
