"Edwin 'Ed' Elmer Day, Sr., a resident of The Dalles, died at his home on Thursday, Feb. 15, 1996. He was 65.
Ed was born May 30, 1930 in Denver, Colo., the third of four children to Hubbard and Alta (Wetzler) Day. He grew up and graduated in 1948 from high school in Bend.
He served in the Navy Seabees from July 21, 1948 to July 18, 1952, during the Korean Conflict.
He moved to The Dalles in the mid-1950's, where he worked as a mechanic, maintenance man and firefighter for the Wasco County Fire Department. Ed started Precision Imports in the late 1960's and had that until the late1980's, and he later went to work for Cascade Motors. He also worked as a doorman and janitor at The Dalles Eagles Lodge.
Ed was a member of the Eagles Lodge and enjoyed sailboats, motorcycles, art and painting.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Jean (Ott) of The Dalles, whom he married Sept. 2, 1962 in The Dalles; a son, Edwin E. Day, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of The Dalles; his daughters: Diane Day of The Dalles and Kathy Baker of Salem; his mother, Alta Day of The Dalles; grandchildren: Kyla Day of The Dalles, Jennifer Snook and Joeleen Copeland of Salem; Tiffany, Brian and David Grant of The Dalles; a great grandson, Cody Snook; step children: Glory Jean Baker of Vancouver, and John and step granddaughter, Angel Baker of Delmar, Calif.; his sister, Elaine Day of Mosier; his brother, Hubbard Day, Jr. and his wife Lou, of McMinnville; nephews and nieces: Jerry Day of The Dalles; Randy and Dana Day and John Day, all of Milwaukie; Bobbie and Robert Wojtecki of The Dalles, Larry Anderson of Tacoma, Dusti St. Clair and Lea Day of Portland.
Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Sunday (today) from 2-7 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Funeral services will be at the funeral home Monday, Feb. 19 with Rev. Karl Vercouteren officiating and with Eagles Lodge rites. Private cremation will be held after the services."
