John Henry Kennedy, 81, of Yreka, passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 3, 2007 at Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka. John was born on September 29, 1925 in Los Angeles, CA to Alfred P. and Irby Kennedy.
When John was a young boy, the family moved to New Mexico for a time then to Sacramento, CA. and later the Sierras east of Sacramento and finally settling in Yreka in 1949. John remained a resident of Siskiyou County until his death.
As a young man he worked in the timber industry eventually going to the California Oregon Power Company (OPCO), which became Pacific Power and Light (PPL) where he spent the rest of his career retiring as a Journeyman Lineman in 1983.
John was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the U. S. Army in the European Theater.
Family was the most important thing to John's life. That deep love of family was demonstrated when at the young age of 16 it became necessary for him to take on the responsibility of supporting and caring for his younger siblings. It was a role he willingly accepted becoming in the process, as much a father figure as a brother.
In 1950 John married Frances Crowe. Together they raised their three children Monica, Marina and son Kelly. Sadly Frances passed away in 1996. John loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and especially boating and camping with his family. The pride and joy he took in his family was evident to all who knew him.
John was actively involved in his church helping whenever and wherever he saw a need. His kindness and dedication to church, family and friends will be sorely missed. His loss will be felt by many, but there is joy in knowing that he has gone home to the Lord.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Irby; his sister Betty Crawford and his beloved wife Frances.
John is survived by his loving wife Sandy of 8 years, daughter and son-in-law Monica and Mike Neimoyer of Medford, Oregon, daughter and son-in-law Marina and Ron Mort of McCloud, CA and son and daughter-in-law Kelly and Lori Kennedy; sisters Frances Foth of Tacoma, WA, Ruth Brock of El Macero, CA., Dorris Wood of Yreka, Hope Price of Sacramento, CA and brother Al Kennedy of Yreka.
He leaves behind grandchildren Michael Neimoyer, Stephanie Vanden Broeck, John Kenney, Matthew Kennedy, Joshua Mort, and Chris Mort, two great grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service in celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 11:AM at First Southern Baptist Church, 921 South Oregon, Yreka.
