The son of Lewis & Mary A. (Miller) Beachler, he married Catherine E. ? and fathered George L. (b. @1861) and John H. (b. 02/19/64). In 1860, he was a laborer living in Middletown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 7" tall with brown hair and hazel eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he served two terms of service:
1. Enlisted in Middletown August 6, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 12 as a private with Co. H, 127th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 29, 1863.
2. Enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 10, 1864, as a private with Co. K, 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry (92nd Pa), and also served as bugler for Co. C. He honorably discharged by general order May 29, 1865. His brother John Conrad Beachler also served in the same regiment and as a bugler but with Co. I.

In 1870, he was living with his family in Sunbury, Northumberland County, but returned to Middletown by 1890. He died at his niece's home from "arteriosclerosis" with "chronic interstitial nephritis" a contributing factor.
