John Hess III the son of the son of Johann "John" Georg II and Catharine Chalotte (Miller) Hess. John Hess III (first) married Catharine Miller, after her death he married (second) of Fanny Miller, she also passed away. John Hess III married circa 1825 (third) Barbara (Snowberger) Hess the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Foreman) Snowberger and the widow of David Hess the brother of John III Hess. The lived and raised their children on the Hess family farm located near Old Forge Road and present U.S. Route 16, north of Waynesboro, Franklin County, PA. John Hess III and his three wives lie buried in the Hess burial ground overlooking the impressive Hess homestead that stands to this day.

(1.) Elizabeth Hess b. 1820–d.1896 married John Morter son David and Christina (Hollinger) Morter.
(2.) Catharine Hess b.1822–d.1898 married William Layman the son of Henry and Lydia Ann (Flohr) Layman.
(3.) Christiana Hess 1824– deceased.
(4.) Maria Hess. b.1826–d.1849 married Henry Oaks.
(5.) John Miller Hess b.1828–d.1908 married Catharine Bonebrake, daughter of Henry and Lydia Ann (Flohr) Bonebrake.
(6.) Leah Hess b.1830–d.1911 married Michael Morgal.
(7.) Loyan Hess b. 1831.
(8.) Barbara Hess b.1834–d.1904 unmarried.
(9.) Henry Miller Hess b.1835–d.1884 married Elizabeth Kendig, they removed Nebraska. However, Henry returned to Pennsylvania.
(10.) Rev. Joseph Miller Hess b. 1838-d.1876 married Nancy Bonebrake daughter of Henry and Anna (Stewart) Bonebrake.

John Hess III married (thirdly) Barbara (Snowberger)Hess, the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Foreman) Snowberger and the widow of his brother Davis Hess. They had no issue.
Barbara (Snowberger) and David Hess had two sons.
(1.) Andrew Hess married Anna Miller.
(2.) David Hess married Sarah J. Boswell.
