Alice Tippetts Black, 92, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 1983. at a Montpelier nursing home following alengthy illness. She was born Feb. 16, 1891, in Georgetown to Joseph William and Ellen Rosenbaum Tippetts. She married Ambrose Black Dec. 29, 1909, in Paris. He died March 20, 1960. She worked for several years as a seamstress for Schmid Brothers cleaners. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many positions in the church, auxiliaries, especially in the Relief Society. She also served as church organist for
50 years. She loved and worked in genealogy for many years and taught piano and organ lessons.
Survivors include three sons, June A. Black, Salt Lake City; Shirley Black, Georgetown, and Berdean K. Black, Montpelier; a daughter, Mrs. Victor (Barbara) Hymas Montpelier; 21 grandchildren' 63 great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette Stump, Smoot, Wyo. She was preceded in death by three daughters, Iola, Mary DeLone, and Genevieve; two sons, Gennis Joy and Harry Warren; and seven brothers and five sisters. Funeral services were Wednesday at the Georgetown LDS chapel. Burial was in the Georgetown Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Matthews Mortuary, Montpelier.
