Civil War veteran. James G Ritter was mustered into Co A 126 Pa Inf as a private on August 11, 1862. He was mustered out with his company on May 20, 1863.

The son of Jacob & Sarah (Grove) Ritter, in 1860 he was a farm laborer living with his family in Greene Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Chambersburg July 28, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 11 as a private with Co. A, 126th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 20, 1863.

He married Georgianna Hinds ca. 1875 and fathered John Grove (b. 01/11/76), James E. (b. 01/11/78), Mable (b. 03/19/82), Alexander Maxwell (b. 10/29/84 or 85), Harry Milton (b. 08/10/88), Athalinda T. & George Hinds (b. 12/22/94 - Athalinda married Ralph P. Essig), Franklin (b. 11/??/95), and Georgianna (b. @1901). By 1880, he was living in Harrisburg where he died from "apoplexy" with "nephritis" a contributing factor.

There are unconfirmed reports that his birth year was 1842 and that he had two middle names, the initials being "W. G."
