Larry George Kirkham, 65, passed away on Nov. 28, 2010, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was born on Dec. 4, 1944, in Terre Haute. After high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Army for 14 years and additional 17 years for U.S. Army Logistics Command at the Pentagon.
After his retirement he lived his boating dream, traveling the waterway from Maryland to Florida for five years, before settling in Myrtle Beach, where golfing became his passion.
Survivors include his wife Sherry; his mother, Amelia Walworth Kirkham Turner; one son, Jeffrey Kirkham and wife Angie; one daughter, Robin Lubbehusen and husband Ronald; a sister, Jean Kellams and husband John; one stepson, D.J.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Russell Turner; and his brother, James Kirkham.
Services will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
AN ASIDE: I knew him as George and he was the little brother of my childhood best friend Jim Kirkham. Amelia Kirkham and her children lived across the street from my house until she remarried after I joined the military. Regretfully, I had lost all contact with the Kirkhams by 1961.
