She was the daughter of Rose Crawford and William McCracken. At some time after 1910, Hazel joined her brother, Rueben, in Vigo County. There, she met and married Carl Ellinger on 27 Mar 1915. They had seven children: Maude, Mary, Carl Jr (1921-2002), Farris (1924-2002), Norma, Nick and Jack.

After Carl's death in 1935, Hazel married widower Thomas Brenton on 2 Nov 1936. They had one son before she again became a widow in 1944.

On 16 Apr 1949, Hazel married Albert R. Jones (1886-1952). No children came of that marriage and, following his death, she returned to her previous married name of Brenton.

A PERSONAL NOTE: That young Brenton son was my childhood friend. I lived with him and his mother for seven months in the early 1950s. I have very good memories of Mrs Hazel Brenton. I still maintained contact with my friend until his death. He didn't have much interest when I informed him about FindAGrave, or that I had placed this memorial, and the one for his deceased wife, Cynthia, as well.
