Duane B. Nelson, 66, of Fayetteville died July 16, 1995 at a Fayetteville hospital. He was born August 26, 1928, at St. Joseph, Missouri to Basil R. and Cleta Richardson Nelson. He was a funeral director in Fayetteville for more than 50 years where he owned and operated Nelson's Funeral Home. He attended the University of Arkansas and was a graduate of the University of Mortuary Science in Kansas City, MO. He was a member of the Arkansas Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Masonic Lodge I, the Scimitar Shrine, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, a Paul Harris Fellow, and a Perfect Attendance Member of the Fayetteville Rotary Club, the United Commercial Travelers, and the First Christian Church of Fayetteville. He moved to Fayetteville in 1936 from Plattsburg, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, David Nelson.
Survivors include his wife, Orena Murphy Nelson of the home, to whom he was married 44 years; one daughter, Durenda Nelson Brunner of Fayetteville; two grandsons, Benjamin Nelson Brunner and Matthew Murphy Brunner, both of Fayetteville.
Services will be at 10am Wednesday at Nelson's Funeral Home of Fayetteville with Phil Misenheimer and Dr. James D. Johnson, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be John Beard, Thomas Ray Cornwell, Justin Jones, Bruce Smithson, Reece Parham, Larry Barnes, Karla Tedford and Boyd Daily.
Visitation will be from 9am to 9pm today at the funeral home.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
