Joseph John, our beloved Father, Grandfather and Uncle passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003 at the age of 81. He was born June 6, 1922 in New York City, NY to Vincenzo and Maria Scalice. Joseph met the Love of His Life, Sophie, and later married her on July 7, 1945. He served in the US Army from 1941-1945 and was part of the Normandy Invasion where he was later captured and held as a POW for 11 months by the German Army. Upon his arrival back home he went to work as a bookbinder and started a family. He and Sophie left NYC for Oklahoma City in 1974 to be with his grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his wife, Sophie; two sons, Vincent and Louis; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his brother, Vincent and sister-in-law, Margie of Long Island, NY; his sister-in-law, Aphrodite Scalice of Staten Island, NY; his nieces Anna Utano of OKC; Maria Obana of California; Margaret Demuth of New York; Darlene Levi of Florida; daughter, Jackie McCuller of OKC; grandchildren, Michelle and Matt of OKC; Mike and Dyanna and great grandson, Dylan of OKC and a great granddaughter due to arrive in February; and many other close relatives and friends too numerous to mention. His family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories he has left with all of us. We love you and will miss you dearly. A wake will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003 in the Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Eugene's Catholic Church with interment at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Long Island National Cemetery, Long Island, New York. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Anthony's Sisters Fund, 826 N.W. 11th St., OKC, OK 73106.
