WATERLOO - Margaret Fordham, 84, passed away on Jan. 1, 2012, after a long and difficult battle with Alzheimer's disease. Margaret was born on May 27, 1927 in Painted Post. She graduated from Painted Post High School in 1945 and attended Keuka College where she studied psychology and sociology. Margaret spend her career as an activities director at Auburn Memorial Hospital Nursing Home, Mercy Health and Rehabilitation Center and Oakland Manor. She retired from Oakland Manor in 1981 and move to Cayuga to care for her parents. Margaret was very active in the Cayuga United Methodist Church, The Cayuga Methodist Bible Study and the United Methodist Women. She was an active participant in the Rusty Hinges swimming program and was a member of the "Stitchers and Bitchers" craft group. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, George and Jane (Barkley) Riddle; her sister, Maryjane Schlappi; and her former husband and dear friend, Don Fordham. She is survived by her daughters, Candace (Gerald) Acierno, of East Amherst and Anita (John) Babiarz, of Waterloo and by her five granddaughters, who were the lights of her life, Michelle and Jennifer Acierno and Elizabeth, Colleen and Amy Babiarz.
In accordance with wishes Margaret made clear many years ago, it is requested that those attending her calling hours and/or funeral wear bright, happy colors as is fitting Margaret's personality. Since she never met a cup of coffee she didn't love, please enjoy a cup and remember her. Our thanks go out to the staff of Huntington Living Center SNU and 2nd floor, Hospice of Wayne and Seneca Counties and Seneca Lake Terrace for the kindness and caring they showed mom as she neared the end of her life.
