Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of James Homer and Kaye Franklin Sears. She was a former teacher with Anderson County School District One, having taught at Pelzer Elementary, Cedar Grove and Spearman Elementary Schools. Karen possessed a caring and dedicated spirit as she taught children. She was a member of Washington Baptist Church for the past twenty years.
Karen possessed a strong determination in her courageous battle with lupus. All who knew her testify to her inspiration and motivation to accept challenges without complaints. She truly portrayed her faith in the Lord.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Kevin Hunter Dean of the home; her parents of Greenwood; brother, Greg Sears (Abbey) of Greenwood; grandmother, Mary Jennings Franklin of McCormick; father and mother-in-law, Herman Ronald and Virginia Agee Dean of Moonville; sister-in-law, Renee McCall (Mark) of Pelzer; nieces, Lauren and Carla McCall; nephews, Jennings Sears and Griffin McCall
She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Kayla Dean.
Visitation will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Washington Baptist Church Family Life Center with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m.
Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
