Tony Ciannamea, Beloved husband of the late Carmela (nee Savarino); beloved father of Clare (Fraterno) Lemus, and Leonard (Lena) Ciannamea, loving Grandfather of Lorena (Steven), Natalie (Cuyler), Anthony (Lindsey), Stephanie, Benedetto (Jessica), Leonard Jr. and Great-Grandfather of Clare.
Funeral Monday 9:15 AM from the Brady-Gill Funeral Home, 16600 South Oak Park Ave, Tinley Park, to St Julie Billiart Church Mass 10AM. Entombment Resurrection Mausoleum.
Tony immigrated to the US from Mola di Bari, Italy in 1949, and besides having a love and first hand knowledge of good Italian cuisine, he developed his culinary skills in the US Military, where he served as a cook in 1950-1951. Generations of pizza lovers on Chicago's South East side have at one time or another, gotten a taste of Tony Ciannamea's passion in life. He opened South Chicago staple Capri Pizza on Commercial Ave in 1955. From the day he opened his pizzeria until he retired in 1991 he became a familiar face to residents in the area, getting involved with the community and its residents, even making and serving up the sauce every year at St. George Church (Ewing St.) for those attending services on St. Joseph Day. His charitable generosity continued through his frequent donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Capri's beloved founder died August 9, 2012 at the age of 86. Tony was not just a business owner in the South Chicago community, he really cared about the people. Tony's greatest passion of all was his love for his wife and for his family.
