Charles "Chuck" Gilbert, 52, Kokomo, died at 11:10 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009, at his home. He was born April 16, 1957, in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., the son of Harvey J. and Carol J. (Bambach) Gilbert. On July 17, 2004, he married Susan D. Jones Gilbert, who survives.

Chuck was a graduate of Purdue University Kokomo, with a degree in engineering technology. He was an engineer and plant manager for Hoosier Broach for 27 years. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Chapter 656. He was an Eagle Scout and coached baseball at Southside Little League for 25 years. Chuck was instrumental in lobbying for and changing a state law that helped parents of critically ill children to care for their children at home.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Susan, are one son, Ryan Nicholas Gilbert, Kokomo; parents, Harvey and Carol Gilbert, Michigan; one brother, David J. Gilbert, Michigan; one sister, Laurie Sorn, North Carolina; one stepson, Steve Jones, Kokomo; one stepdaughter, Sarah Jones, Kokomo; grandmother, Mary Bambach, Bad Axe, Mich.; in-laws, Bill and Germaine Winkel.

He was preceded in death by one son, Matthew Gilbert.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West, with the Rev. Fr. David Hasser the celebrant. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel and one hour prior to the Mass at the church. A Scripture service will be observed at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
