A possible alternate birth location for Joel is Bamberg, SC (about 20 miles East).

Joel married Elizabeth Norman in 1785 in Greenville, SC. They had 12 children while living in Greenville.

The family moved to what is now known as Flowery Branch, Hall County, GA shortly before 1818. They were one of the pioneering families of Hall County and remained their until their deaths.

An excerpt from his final will & testament:

Item 3rd: I will and bequeath to my loving wife Elizabeth, with who I have lived in the most affectionable manner about sixty-five years, part of Lot of Land number One hundred and seventeen in the Eighth District of Hall County being all that part east of the branch running through John B. Payne's land and thence to the Flowery Branch supposed to contain one hundred acres more or less it being whereon my dwelling house now stands and at the death of my loving wife Elizabeth I devise that the above named land and premises ensure and belong to my loving daughter Elizabeth Bennett.

Item 4th: I devise and bequeath to my loving son Joel Bennett Jun. the remaining balance of lot of land Number One hundred and seventeen in the Eighth District of Hall County being all that part of said Lot of Land on the west side of the branch running through John B. Payne's plantation and into the Flowery and the part whereon that said Joel Bennett Jun. now lives, supposed to contain One Hundred Twenty acres more or less with all the rights members and appurtenances to said premises belonging or in any wise belonging forever.

Item 5th: I devise to my granddaughter Elizabeth Otwell one feather bed and furniture and one cow and calf of my stock of cattle.

Item 6th: It is my will that all my personal property be sold and the proceeds of the sale equally divided among my twelve children: Israel Bennett, Elijah Bennett, Susannah Payne, Ester Brooks, Green Bennett, Henry Bennett, William Bennett, Delilah Martin, Mark Bennett, Elizabeth Bennett, Joel Bennett Jun. and Pheribee Otwell whose distributive share I will to her and the heirs of her body.
