Professional baseball umpire. Dunn umpired in the National League from 1939 to 1946. He began his career managing and umpiring local clubs and games in Massachusetts in the early 1920s. He then moved to the Blackstone Valley League, the New England League, and eventually the Eastern League in 1930. The following year he joined the umpiring staff of the West Coast League, then spent two seasons in the Pacific Coast League before beginning a seven-year stint in the American Association in 1933. In June 1939, he was brought into the National League to fill in for longtime umpire Bill Klem. In his MLB debut on June 27, he umpired a 23-inning game between Boston and Brooklyn that ended in a tie after more than five hours. He umpired 91 more games the rest of the season. He became a full-time member of the NL staff in 1940. Dunn was assigned the 1943 Major League Baseball All-Star Game and the 1944 World Series, working behind home plate in game three. Dunn was released following the 1946 season after officiating 1,151 major league games.
