Professional baseball player and manager. Hollingshead played for top professional and amateur teams in his hometown of Washington D.C. throughout the 1870s and 1880s, most notably with the Washington Nationals and Olympics in the National Association of Base Ball Players and the Nationals and Washington Blue Legs of the National Association of Professional Baseball Players. He played in 58 documented games in 1872, 1873, and 1875 as an outfielder and second baseman, batting .264 with 69 hits and 33 runs batted in. Originally involved in the placement of a Washington club in the newly-formed Union Association of 1884, Hollingshead moved to the capital city's American Association entry and served as club manager for all but one of the Nationals' games that season, as the team finished in last place. Outside of baseball, he worked for the U.S. Government at the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of the Interior before his retirement in 1923.
