Civil War Veteran. A member of the 3rd Maine Battery in the 1st Battalion Maine Light Artillery, enlisting 25 Aug 1862 at Orrington, Me. and mustering to active duty the same day. He was described as an 18 year old single farmer standing 5' 6" with brown hair & blue eyes. On 28 Mar 1863 he transferred to Co. M; 1st Heavy Artillery; Me. Volunteers and remained with that unit until he transferred back to his original unit 23 Feb 1864. He died 24 Jun 1864 at Camp Barry, Washington D.C. in service during the Civil War.
