Smokie was a little stray kitten found by our son who ended up spending fourteen years in our home and our hearts. He was a gentle giant who, at one time, weighed just under twenty pounds but who was never too big to fit on your lap, his favorite place to be. He resembled a Maine Coone cat but, since he was a stray, we never knew his breed or if he even had one. But that didn't matter; we loved him whatever he was.

At about age eleven Smokie began to lose a lot of weight and a visit to the vet confirmed that he had developed diabetes. He never minded the two insulin injections we had to give him every day but after three years the disease took its' toll and it was time for him to leave us. He will always be remembered for being such a fine companion and a true gentleman.
