BIO:
Anna was born into two prominent families: the Winterlings of Baltimore, Maryland, and the Clemmers of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Her father died from complications of alcoholism when Anna was only 9. She had a very Catholic upbringing with her mother and stepfather, and she remained strong in her faith for the rest of her life.
Anna married Joseph Henry Williams, Jr. in Philadelphia in 1917. They had 3 daughters and a son, but their marriage was not a happy one. Her husband suffered from mental disease, and they separated shortly before he was committed to Byberry Mental Hospital. He died there in 1935, and Anna never remarried.
Anna Maria had a very difficult life, and was a bitter person as a result. She raised her granddaughters (including my grandmother) to be bitter individuals as well.
