Born in Vittiorosa, Malta, Alfredo Lanzon was appointed canon of the Reverend Chapter of St. Lawrence's Collegiate Chapter of Vittoriosa while still a cleric in December 1883, serving for a couple of years as its secretary.

Leaving Malta to to North Queensland, Australia, he joined the Diocese of Rockhampton, which then was still in its formation and in 1890 accompanied Bishop Joseph Higgins of Rockhampton to Ingham where, in 1903, he was appointed its first parish priest. He stayed in Ingham till 1905.

Returning to Rockhampton in 1906, where he stayed till 1909, in 1911 he was commissioned to form the parish of Proserpine but that arrangement lasted only ten months, when Proserpine was joined once more to Bowen. That same year, he was appointed assistant priest to Father James Murtagh, the local pastor of Cloncurry.

Assistant priest at Mackay and later in the same year at Clermont, in 1920 he was appointed assistant parish priest to Father Patrick O'Keefe at Mt. Morgan. Retiring to his native island, Canon Anton Zammit Gabarretta in his book "L-Insinji Kolleġġjata u l-Kapitolu tal-Belt Vittoriosa" states that on May 8, 1929, Lanzon paid his arrears to the Sodality of Priests from 1902 up to 1928. He also lists that he had joined the named sodality back in June 1891.

Canon Lanzon died in Marsaxlokk on November 5, 1931, aged 65 and was buried at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. He was the third Maltese priest to leave Malta for Australia, the previous two being Capuchin Friars Ambrose Cassar in 1883 and Gaetano Borg two years later. The latter are both buried in Australia.
