Dom Roger William Bede Vaughan was an English Benedictine monk of Downside Abbey and the Second Roman Catholic Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Sydney from 1877 till his death in 1883 which occurred prematurely at the age of 49 of heart disease in his sleep, in Liverpool. Originally buried there in the family vault, his remains were moved to Belmont in 1887 and eventually to Saint Mary's Cathedral in August 1946.
