Born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland, Father Maurice Albert O'Connor joined the Augustinians in 1939, professing his first vows on September 25, 1940. Ordained to the priesthood in Dublin on March 22, 1947, Maurice was appointed to Australia in 1950, spending a period of time in Dundee parish, Scotland, on the way.

Father Maurice served in St. Joseph's parish, Cairns, from 1950 to 1953, and for a brief time in 1959. From 1953 till 1959, and from 1960 to 1971, he served at St. Thomas of Villanova parish, Mareeba, in the Diocese of Cairns, being the parish priest there from 1964. In 1971, he was appointed to Kyabram in northern Victoria being the parish priest there from 1975. In 1979, Father Maurice was appointed to St. Kieran's parish, Manly Vale, and in 1991, to St. Rita's parish, Redland Bay, returning to Manly Vale in 1995.

O'Connor though retired from full-time parish ministry was still very much a presence in Manly Vale and assisted where he was able. He introduced the Bethel Bible course at Manly Vale and Redland Bay, which opened up the treasures of the Scriptures for many and enabled them to do the same for others.

In 1997, for the 50th anniversary of his ordination, Fr. Maurice published "Never A Dull Moment", an anecdotal and humorous account of his life as an Augustinian in Australia. He passed away on May 10, 2002, aged 81.
