Former Auxiliary for the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and Bishop of the Titular See of Nisyrus, Monsignor Franz Fellinger was born in St. Thomas, Austria, and was ordained to the priesthood in Linz on July 15, 1888. Professor of Sacred Scripture in Jerusalem, he was appointed Vicar General of the Patriarchate and later Auxiliary Bishop, receiving his episcopal consecration on April 7, 1929, from Patriarch Luigi Barlassina assisted by Bishop Igino Michelangelo Nuti OFM., and Archbishop Abdallah Khoury. A grave cardiac crisis led to his death at 75 years of age in 1940.
