A native of Tyrol, Austria, Father Georges Gatt was ordained to the priesthood on June 4, 1867. Appointed vice-rector of the Jerusalem Hospice by the Cardinal Archbishop of Vienna, he served as director of the Regensburg School, and became attached to the Latin Patriarchate in 1874, following a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. The first pastor of Gaza, he died in a Jerusalem hospital aged 84.
