Arriving in Pau in 1848, l'Abbé Bruchou was, during the war of 1870, asked by one of his parishioners who apparently held little virtue, to intercede with God to save both her husband and her lover. The two men eventually survived conflict and since then, legend has it that he is able to perform miracles. To this day, his grave at the cemetery of Pau remains to site of pilgrimage to many, with hundreds of ex-votos adorning the site.
