Born in France around 1660, Jean-Bernard de Réqueleyne arrived in Québec in 1690, and already a priest. He was sent as a missionary, with a portable chapel, to the Rivière-Ouelle in La Bouteillerie in 1691, where he served as pastor until 1715. He then returned to Québec, in bad shape (probable victim of scarlet fever. He died at the Hôtel-Dieu, Québec on July 12, 1724 and was buried at the cathedral.
