Born in Sandakan, Sabah, he was educated at the Holy Trinity School in Tawau, Saint Mary's Secondary School in Sandakan, Sabah College in Kota Kinabalu and the University of Adelaide in South Australia. Entering the Society of Jesus in Cheung Chau, Hong Kong, on August 14, 1968, he professed his first vows on August 15, 1970. Successively, he went on to study philosophy at the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines, from 1970 to 1973, and theological studies at the Institute of Philosophy and Theology in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from 1974 to 1977. Ordained priest on December 10, 1978, he soon sat for his Tertianship formation in Tokyo and Manila up to the following year. Making his final vows on July 31, 1982, some of his assignments include those of parish priest of the church of Saint Francis Xavier in Petaling Jaya, prefect of studies in Arrupe International Residence in Manila, for a time period he was assigned to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. It was he who initiated the Community of Arrupe House in Masai in 1999, the Myanmar Mission, and the Ministry of Writing and Research in Petaling Jaya.
Known for his love of trees, landscaping and gardens, Father Peter was laid out in state at Paul Miki Room of the church of Saint Francis Xavier, from the morning of Saturday, September 24, his funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, September 27 at the said church in Petaling Jaya at 10.30 am., followed by interment at the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Kajang.
