A native of Trois-Pistoles, Father Louis-Côme D'Amours was the founding priest of what is now today Edmundston's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Ordained priest in Chatham in 1878 by Bishop James Rogers, after serving as parish priest of Caraquet until 1880, he was appointed parish priest of Saint-Jacques and Edmundston. Between 1881 and 1882, he built the first church and converted the primitive chapel into a rectory. He served as Saint-Jacques from 1880 till 1892 and built the second church in 1888.
