Father Jean Bergier came to Canada with Bishop Saint-Valier on July 30, 1685 and died on August 25 at the age of 28 years. He was buried in the chapel of Saint Anne of the Cathedral of Québec. The two priests came along with 500 soldiers, one died aboard the ship shortly before he touched the port, the other languished a few days after his arrival in Quebec City.
