Former Bishop of the Diocese of 's Hertogenbosch (Bois-le-Duc), Mgr. Adrianus Godschalk was a native of Dungen. Named Auxiliary of the Diocese of 's Hertogenbosch, receiving his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Hemeria on October 14, 1877, he was named ordinary of the same diocese on the following January 8. During his tenure, he opposed vehemently the carnival "excesses" of Den Bosche, forbidding dancing and other amusements. He died in office aged 72.
