A tailor by trade, Josef Gebhard Eugster entered the Benedictine Abbey of Einsiedeln in 1874, receiving the religious name of Meinrad. Taking his vows on September 5 of the following year. In the monastery, he worked mainly as a tailor, from 1880 till 1916. Passing away on June 14, 1925 due to a stomach ailment, in 1941 his remains were reburied in the abbey church of the monastery. On October 23, 1960, Pope John XXIII decreed that Brother Meinrad had practised Christian virtues. His grave is a place of pilgrimage to many.
