My dear father, "Doc" McCaslin, was born in Butler, Pa., the youngest of five children. His middle name was truly "E" as that was all they wrote on the birth certificate. It was supposed to be Elmer. He was active in sports throughout high school, playing baseball, football and basketball.

He received his Bachelors degree from Geneva College in New Castle, Pa. He graduated from Peabody Conservatory of Music, and then obtained his Masters degree from Loyola College in Maryland. In the 1960's he received his Doctorate of Education from the University of Maryland, College Park.

He was a Navy pilot during WWII serving in the Pacific. He flew Catalina planes.

At the end of the war, he moved to Maryland where he married Edna Jean. They lived in Baltimore County and had one daughter, Barbara. At the time of his death, he and Edna Jean had been married 54 years.

Doc served as a teacher and then principal in Baltimore County for over 40 years and retired in 1989. He was well loved by his faculties and he loved them dearly in return.
He was well known for a fabulous sense of humor and for his kindness and gentleness.

He served as Choir Director for Waverly Methodist Church, Third English Lutheran Church, and St. Luke's United Methodist Church. He was a member of Towson Presbyterian Church and had been the tenor soloist for their choir. He was also active in the Chorus of the Chesapeake (barbershop quartets).

In his spare time, he enjoyed vacationing at his summer home near Deep Creek Lake Maryland, and playing ping pong and horseshoes.

He was a talented golfer, an avid bridge player, and an Orioles, Baltimore Colts/Ravens, and Maryland basketball fan.

"Doc" sadly passed away of complications from Alzheimer's Disease. He is dearly missed by his family, many friends, and former co-workers.

I was so lucky to have had such a wonderful father. My favorite memories are going to Orioles baseball games with him, playing catch in the back yard, and long walks up in Garrett County where he taught me to appreciate nature, from the smallest insect to the largest oak tree. He was always there to listen, to comfort, to provide guidance, and to make sure I grew up to be a decent gal. I love you Daddy!
