Robert Clarence Bell, the son of Frank Wesley and Chloe Elizabeth (Davis) Bell, was born in Jewel City, Kansas on January 29, 1923 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on August 18, 2006, at the age of 83.
Clarence was two years old when his family moved to Giltner from Kansas. He graduated from Giltner High School. Clarence farmed with his father until he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served aboard the U.S.S. Philadelphia and also worked in the Navy Department in Washington, D.C.
Clarence was united in marriage to Laurine Adams Johnson on December 17, 1946 at Bellevue, Kansas. Clarence farmed with his father until 1957. He then worked for Wayne Beach as a heavy equipment operator for several years before going to work for Hamilton County as a heavy equipment operator for 23 years, retiring in 1991.
Clarence was a member of the Stockham Community Church, the Doniphan American Legion Post #300 and the Greenwood Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Homer Bell; three granddaughters, Brenda Fowler, Rochelle Straatmann and Chris Straatmann and one great-grandson, Brandon Fowler.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Laurine Bell of Giltner; three children, Dave (Nancy) Bell of Piedmont, South Dakota, Jean Straatmann of Hastings, and Kathy (Steve) Hosier of Giltner; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Glenn (Helen) Bell of Giltner and a sister, Edna Ruth Marler of Otis, Louisiana.
