Famed Ventriloquist, Entertainer. The inscription, which is extremely hard to decipher, reads : "Arthur Prince and Jim, died 14th. April 1948. Julie Prince, died 14th. Sept. 1949." Arthur Prince, along with his dummy, Jim, was the first ventriloquist to talk and drink at the same time. They began their career in Wales and made their debut in London in 1902. Later, they toured America and Australia and, in 1912, appeared in front of King George V at the first Royal Command Performance. In the act, Arthur wore a naval officer's uniform and Jim dressed as a jolly Jack Tar, with the words "H.M.S Prince" on the band of his cap. When Arthur died, a few months after their final performance at the Finsbury Park Empire, Jim was buried with him. The next year, they were joined by Arthur's grieving widow.
