Her death record gives her parentage as Washington Shrout of WV and Sarah, followed with a blurred erasure, from Garrett county, MD.
Some former compilations had her mother as Sarah Roach.

Further research into death records of other Shrouts indicate she may have been one of the children of Solomon Washington Shrout and Sarah Paugh, likely the youngest.*
She would have been a two year old infant when her father fell at Winchester.

Julia married Samuel Thomas McGinnis on Christmas Day, 1877 at the home of Isaac Teets, her stepfather.

The ceremony was performed by DG Fortney.
She was fifteen years old.

Her surname was spelled "Srout" for that record.

A life resident of Preston county, she was the mother of Minnie, Arnold, Enos, Peter, Mary, Eugenius, Mattie, and Harry, and has many descendants all over the country.
Julia outlived Samuel by 5 years.

She died at 76 years, 8 months, 5 days.
