Roger H. Williams, 66, of Watsontown, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 16, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospice, Bethlehem, after a brief battle with cancer.

Roger was born on February 28th, 1943 to Ella Rovenolt Williams and the late H. Hall Williams. Roger was active in Scouting and became an Eagle Scout during high school. He graduated from Warrior Run High School in 1961, and received his bachelor's degree from Bloomsburg State College in 1965, where he also earned his Master's Degree in Business Education in 1968.

He married the former Ruth Ann Golder in December, 1967. He taught business subjects in the Port Jervis, New York school district for 33 years and operated a tax and accounting service for 41 years. Roger was also the borough treasurer of Milford for 25 years.

Following his retirement in 1998, Roger and Ruth Ann returned to the Watsontown area, where he was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. He also belonged to the Masonic Lodge 401, Watsontown. He took an avid interest in the community and served on the Delaware Township Planning Board for two terms. He took great pride in his home and enjoyed taking care of his beautiful yard and landscaping. Roger had a ready smile and wonderful sense of humor. His grandchildren fondly knew him as Papa or Grandpa Bear.

In addition to his wife of 42 years, Ruth Ann, Roger is survived by his mother, Ella Williams, Watsontown; son, Chad and daughter-in-law, Emily Williams and their daughter, Juliann, of Easton; daughter, Chloe and son-in-law, Brian Kissinger, and their children, Amber and Frederick, of State College; and his brother, Richard and sister-in-law Joyce, of Port Jervis, New York. There are also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, H. Hall Williams, and his sister, Kay Williams Howe.

The family will receive relatives and friends at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 401 Main Street, Watsontown on Saturday, November 21. A memorial service to celebrate Roger's life will follow at the church at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
