William Wertman, 68, of Lubbock passed away on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, in Resthaven Funeral Home's Abbey Chapel. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.

William was born on Oct. 17, 1942, in Lewisburg, Pa., to the late William Conrad and Margaret Evelyn (Burrows) Wertman. He grew up in Watsontown, Pa., and graduated from Warrior Run High School. William served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years at Reese AFB and was also stationed in King Salmon, Alaska, for one year. After the military, he joined the Lubbock Police Department, where he retired as Corporal after 33 years of service on Oct. 31, 2002. He was a member of the American Legion and Hub City Wheels Trailer Club. William was also very involved with Boy Scouts of America. William loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, golfing and watching NASCAR, but nothing came before his love for his family.

William married Patsy Agee on Dec. 20, 1974, in Lubbock by the Lubbock Police Department Chaplain.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Neal Wertman.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Patsy of Lubbock; four children, William R. Wertman and wife Lisa, Samantha Fulcher and husband Rickey, Thomas Wertman and wife Cristina and Rebecca Wertman and fiance Michael Gaddis, all of Lubbock; six grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Wertman of Ft. Worth, Taylor Clark, Zayne Fulcher, Ethan Fulcher, Kaylynn Gaddis and Aiden Wertman; and a great-granddaughter, Hailey Williams. William also leaves behind his two loyal dogs, Dean and Shadow.
