Enlisted 29 Apr 1861 & mustered in on 15 Jul 1861, at Portland, Me., to Co. E; 6th Infantry Regiment, Maine Volunteers. Described as a 30 year old married carpenter, standing 5'-10" with black hair & eyes. Mustered out at Portland 15 Aug 1864. It is noted that he was wounded 7 Nov 1863 at Rappahannock Station, VA. Enlisted as a Private, promoted to Corporal, then Sergeant.

On 22 Aug 1864 he was granted an invalid veteran pension, certificate 33253.
