Simeon Amasa Holden was the son of William E. Holden (1812-1878) and Isiphenia Milliken (1816-1861).
He married Hannah Augusta Verrill 20 November 1867 in Tremont, Hancock Co., Maine. They had at least three children: Frederick Clark Holden, Grace May Holden and Pauline Vernette Holden.
Simeon A Holden was 18 when he enlisted Oct 19, 1861 in Co. D of 1st Maine Cavalry. He was a Corporal when he was wounded "at the cavalry affair at Upperville, June 21, 1863, by a sabre cut in the lumbar region. . . He recovered, and was discharged on November 25, 1864, and was a pensioner in 1872. Examining Surgeon P. H. Harding reported that . . . the disability was three-fourths and permanent."
