Outstanding football star at Georgetown University, 1910-1913. Member of the Georgetown University Sports Hall of Fame. After college he played in the National Football League with the Detroit Heralds and the Cincinnati Celts. Later he became a sportswriter in Detroit and Washington, D.C. He also served as a special aide to Senator Huey Long of Louisiana. A gifted speaker, he was in demand on the banquet circuit. In 1985 he was elected to the Meriden (Connecticut) Hall of Fame.
U.S. Army veteran, World War I - Russian campaign.
Son of Patrick H. Costello and Catherine Meskell Costello. Survived by two sisters, Mrs. Margaret C. Flanagan and Miss Anne E. Costello of Meriden and a step-daughter, Mrs. Albert Franklin of Falls Church, VA, with whom he had been living. Also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
