Iranian Singer. Heideh (also spelled Hayedeh) was born in Tehran as Ma'soumeh Dadehbala. Her professional career began in 1968 as a singer on a Persian traditional music radio program. That year she performed her first hit, "Azadeh", on Radio Tehran. In the 1970s she added Persian pop music to her musical repertoire. In this period, she worked with several Persian songwriters, and performed songs such as "Bezan Tar" (Strum On), "Gol-e Sang" (Stone Flower), "Nowrouz Aamad" (A New Day Has Arrived), and "Soghati" (Souvenir). Shortly before the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran she immigrated to the United Kingdom. She stayed there for three years and moved to the United States in 1982 to continue her career, living in Los Angeles for the rest of her life. Her career was helped by the rapid growth of the Iranian community in Southern California during the 1980s. She released many successful albums during this time, and much of her work was smuggled into Iran. Her songs "Rouza-ye Roshan Khodahafez" (Bright Days), "Faryad" (Plaint) and "Zendegi" (Life) became very popular with the Iranian exile community. Her songwriters, lyricists and producers in the US were mostly Iranian emigrants. Her best friend Leila Kasra wrote more than thirty of her songs and hits, and was featured in many of her albums reciting her poems. She regularly appeared on Los Angeles-based Iranian TV. She had a history of diabetes and hypertension, and died from a heart attack after a concert at the Casablanca Club in San Francisco, California. She was scheduled to perform a concert in Bahrain, and had been recording an album which she was due to finish recording after she returned from her concert. Many of her songs continued to be sung by Iranian pop singers, such as Houshmand Aghili who performed her "Sarab", Parviz Rahman Panah who remixed her "Saal", and singer Amir who did a cover of her song "Soghati."
