One of fourteen children born to Riley and Amelia (Bunker) Beebe. The family relocated from New York to Illinois in 1852. David and three of his brothers (Thomas J., James E. and John W.) joined the Union Army and served in different Illinois Regiments during the Civil War. David enlisted as a Private, Company B, 17th Illinois Cavalry at the age of 16 on November 18, 1863. After the South's surrender, he served on the western plains and was Honorably Discharged as a Commissary Sergeant in December, 1865.
After the war he lilved for a time in Iowa, where he married Angeline C. Porter on October 7, 1874. They moved to Illinois and they had four children: Edgar D., Edith (who died at one year of age), Ethel May and Ruth. At various times in his life he was a farmer, railroad worker and an Insurance Agent. He died on December 26, 1940.
