Death of Mr. Henry P. Barnes
Mr. Henry P. Barnes, aged about 70 years died at his home near Long Branch Friday at 11:10 a.m. He had been suffering from a stroke of paralysis for several months. Mr. Barnes was well-known in South Robeson and his many friends will be saddened to hear of his death. He was a member of Mt. Eliam Baptist church. Deceased is survived by his wife and eight children. The internment was made in the Ivey cemetery, near Proctorville, Saturday.
Henry served in Company E of the 51st North Carolina Infantry. He deserted twice, first on September 1, 1862 and later on July 12, 1864 from the trenches of Petersburg, VA.
